Public Housing
What is Public Housing?
Public housing was created by the federal government to provide safe and decent housing for eligible low-income families. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards federal funds to state Housing Agencies across the country that manage public housing units.
Who is Eligible?
Public housing is limited to low-income families. The HA determines your eligibility based on 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as a family; and 3) U.S. Citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the HA will verify to ensure your family will be a suitable tenant. Family Self Sufficiency Participation: All head of households residing at Villa Sandoval-Longoria in Weslaco, must be willing to participate in the FSS Program and enter into a 5-year FSS Contract of Participation.
